Abstrakt:

In recent years, the temporal limits of ancient DNA recovery have been extended into the Early Pleistocene, enabling genomic analyses across timescales spanning several hundred thousand years. These deep-time datasets provide unprecedented opportunities to investigate macroevolutionary processes in real-time, including speciation, extinction, and long-term adaptation. At the Centre for Palaeogenetics in Stockholm, our recent and ongoing work on Middle and Early Pleistocene genomes has revealed previously unrecognized evolutionary lineages, refined hypotheses regarding species origins, and improved resolution of the timing and rate of adaptive evolution. In this presentation, I will present several case studies on different mammalian species, ranging in size from mammoths to small rodents.
