For the 33rd time, the Foundation for Polish Science has announced the names of one hundred laureates of the START competition. Annual scholarships of PLN 30,000 have been awarded to the most talented Polish scientists under 30. We are proud to announce that three of them were awarded to scientists working at the Centre of New Technologies.

Sebastian Borówka was awarded the START 2025 scholarship with distinction, as one of only four laureates. Sebastian is pursuing his PhD project in the Quantum Optical Devices Lab (QODL) under the supervision of Michał Parniak, where he is working on new applications of Rydberg atoms in radio technologies and fundamental research in quantum physics. Sebastian is currently pursuing a PRELUDIUM grant at CeNT, and is an important team member in the QOT – Quantum Optical Technologies (MAB FNP) project and the RYDAR project carried out at the UW’s special purpose vehicle for the European Space Agency.

Karoł Łukanowski from the Quantum Technologies Laboratory of Konrad Banaszek, also a member of QOT – Quantum Optical Technologies (MAB FNP), obtained the fellowship for his work on the application of quantum strategies in modern optical communication.

Piotr Chyży, the final CeNT laureate and a member of the Biomolecular Machines Laboratory of Joanna Trylska, is using computational models, based on alchemical transformation, for designing new antimicrobials, In the future, such protocols will aid scientists in discovering effective therapeutic agents and novel strategies for their design.

Congratulations!
