New chemical modifications of mRNA – a publication in Advanced Science

Category: Research highlights

Researchers from the group of Jacek Jemielity, head of the Laboratory of Chemical Biology at the University of Warsaw’s Centre of New Technologies, have published a paper entitled “Photoactivatable mRNA 5′ Cap Analogs for RNA-Protein Crosslinking” in the journal Advanced Science. In this work, they synthesized and characterized novel cap 5′ mRNA analogues for use in mRNA research. Informational RNA (mRNA) plays a central role in gene expression and is the target of many proteins that regulate protein biosynthesis. It has also emerged as a very attractive and flexible platform for new therapeutic strategies, including preventive vaccination (viral diseases), immunotherapy (cancer) or protein replacement therapies, which have already proven their efficacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
