Postdoctoral Research Associate (Adjunct) in Microalgal Bioremediation

Field: life sciences

Results of the competition:

By means of the conducted competition, the competition committee has recommended Sergio Santaeufemia Sánchez, PhD, for the position.

Description:

Applications are invited for a full-time post-doctoral position in the Solar Fuels Lab, Centre of New Technologies, University of Warsaw, Poland. The position has been funded by the Polish National Science Centre within the OPUS17 call.

Characterisation of the molecular mechanisms of heavy metals adaptation in extremophilic red microalgae Cyanidiales

The main aim of this project is to dissect the molecular mechanisms of cellular adaptation to heavy metals in two model species of extremophilic red microalgae Cyanidiales differing in the cellular ultrastructure and genome composition, especially with regards to genes encoding membrane transporters.

The successful applicant will perform the biochemical, spectroscopic and structural characterisation of the photosynthetic apparatus and membrane transporters in 2 species of Cyanidiales exposed to heavy metals and high salt. Applications are invited from the candidates with a proven strong track record in protein biochemistry, bioinformatics and/or spectroscopy. The applicants should hold a PhD (in accordance with the information provided in the ‘Requirements’ section) in protein biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline, with a knowledge, insight, and proven technical ability in membrane protein purification and biochemical/spectroscopic/proteomic characterisation. Proven practical experience in electron microscopy will be highly desirable. Additional funds are available to attend relevant workshops and international conferences.

The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions specified in:
– Act of 20 July 2018 Law on higher education and science (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 85, as amended) and the Statutes of the University of Warsaw;
– Regulations on the allocation of resources for the implementation of tasks financed by the National Centre of Science for OPUS 17 grant
