The Foundation for Polish Science has once again awarded scholars whose research has led to breakthrough scientific achievements. This year’s laureates include prof. Jacek Jemielity from the Center of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw and prof. Cezary Cieśliński from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Warsaw. Scientists received the FNP Prize in the area of chemical and materials sciences, as well as humanities and social sciences.
Prof. Jacek Jemielity from the Center of New Technologies, University of Warsaw, received an award for the development of chemical modifications of mRNA as tools for therapeutic applications and research on cellular processes. Prof. Jemielity specializes in organic and biological chemistry as well as the biochemistry of nucleotides and nucleic acids. He is the head of the Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory of the Center of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw. He is also a co-founder and head of ExploRNA Therapeutics – a spin-off company of the University of Warsaw, in which the technology of chemically modified mRNA is developed and then used in the design of innovative therapies.
