The Polish Science Day was established in 2020 by the Act of 9 January as an expression of recognition for the achievements of Polish scientists. It is celebrated on February 19th, the anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, and has the status of a public holiday.
On this occasion, a Polish Science Gala was held in Toruń, during which awards were given, among others, by the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Twelve scientists from the University of Warsaw were honored with them.
The Minister awarded a total of 88 awards (75 individual and 13 team) in five categories: for overall achievements, significant achievements in the field of scientific activity, in the field of teaching, implementation and organizational activities. The awards were granted based on the achievements of two years back from the moment of applying for them.

Prof. dr hab. Joanna Ida Sułkowska became the laureate of the Award of the Minister of Science and Higher Education receiving the award in the category of significant achievements in the field of scientific activity.
At the Center of New Technologies, prof. dr hab. Joanna I. Sułkowska is the head of an interdisciplinary laboratory for modeling biological systems, which specializes in the characteristics of non-trivial topology proteins along with their applications in industry and medical drug design.
