An article authored by Łukasz Kowalski and Piotr Brągoszewski (together with colleagues from the Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biogenesis and from the University of Heidelberg) entitled Determination of the cytosolic turnover of mitochondrial intermembrane space proteins has been published in BMC Biology journal. Authors provided the detailed analysis of the involvement of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in the quality control of mitochondrial proteins. The results of the work are discussed in the commentary Proteasomal degradation competes with Mia40-mediated import into mitochondria, which appeared in the same journal.
