A team from the Center for Quantum Optical Technologies published results in the journal Nature Photonics. The paper demonstrates for the first time the conversion of microwave photons to optical photons using a device based on Rydberg atoms and operating at room temperature. The invention provides a new and highly sensitive method for measuring microwaves, opening new avenues in communications, radar science and radio astronomy.
