Project title: “Cellular mechanisms handling failed mitochondrial protein translocation events”

Project is carried out within the FIRST TEAM programme of the Foundation for Polish Science

Project description:

Project focuses on quality control mechanisms in biogenesis of the mitochondrial proteome. Most mitochondrial proteins originate from the cytosol and require active import into the organelle. Our current understanding of the import process is well detailed but little is known about quality control mechanisms that respond to the failed protein translocation events. The project’s aim is to uncover and characterize this quality control mechanisms at the molecular level, and to understand the role of such response in physiology and pathology.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Performing experiments using biochemical, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques (independently and in collaboration with other team members)
2. Participation in experimental design and data analysis
3. Participation in data preparation for publication
4. Active participation in lab meetings, scientific seminars and conferences

Profile of candidates/requirements:

1. MSc degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related fields of life sciences
2. Solid knowledge and familiarity with laboratory techniques in at least one of the following disciplines: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, transcriptomics
3. Very good command of English
4. Motivation and passion for experimental work

Required documents:

1. Motivation letter (in English)
2. CV (in English)
3. Contact details of the scientific supervisor and other referee/s if available (preferably direct supervisor of applicant’s MSc thesis).
