An international team of scientists led by Yazhou Zhou from the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Germany), Qinqin Liu from the Jiangsu University (China) and Silvio Osella, a member of the Chemical and Biological Systems Simulation Laboratory at the Centre of New Technologies designed and developed a new covalent organic framework which exhibited remarkable performance in the oxidation of benzylamine for simultaneous N-benzylbenzaldimine production with 99% selectivity and H2 generation. Density functional theory calculations performed by Silvio confirmed that the unique structure of the new material optimizes reaction thermodynamics by lowering the potential energy barriers of benzylamine activation.
The study was published in the Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
