Project leader: dr hab. Bartosz Trzaskowski
Project title: Anionic Carbenes and Borylanions: Tuning the properties of ruthenium metal complexes in olefin metathesis
Project Description: The main goal of this research project is a systematic study of selected, non-standard carbenes and their potential use in homogenous chemical catalysts directed toward better understanding of the fundamental aspects of their action. The main part of this project consists of the design, modelling, synthesis and analysis of new anionic N-heterocyclic carbene derivatives and borylanions, which can be used as transition metal complexing agents to produce new catalysts. We will focus on ruthenium-based complexes as candidates for efficient metathesis reaction but also explore synthetic routes towards complexes of other transition metals.

Key responsibilities include:
1. Design and modelling of electronic properties of carbenes and transition metal complexes
2. Analysis of the obtained data
3. Active participation in lab meetings, scientific seminars and international conferences.
4. Participation in the data preparation and writing of manuscripts.

Profile of candidates/requirements:
1. PhD degree in chemistry or related subject (PhD defended not later than 5 years ago according to NCN regulations (www.ncn.gov.pl) or date of defense before starting the job)
2. very good knowledge of computational methods used to describe small organic / organometallic / catalytic systems and expertise in using a variety of quantum mechanical modelling codes
3. very good knowledge of mechanism of organic reactions
4. very good command of English
5. scientific achievements documented by publications in recognized journals
6. strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent communication skills

Required documents:
1. CV and cover letter

We offer:
1. Post-doctoral full time position (adiunkt naukowy). Salary of approx. 6900 PLN gross/month + 1 extra month bonus.
2. An opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary project in one of the best scientific institutions in Poland
3. Stimulating, young and friendly work environment
4. Access to high-end computing equipment (CPU clusters)
