Spectral shaping of single-photon pulses
Date: 10th May2024, Friday
Time: 12:00 pm (Central European Time)

The seminar will be in the CeNT aula hall (00.142) on the main floor.
Abstract:
Thanks to the quantum mechanical superposition principle single photons do not need to have a well-defined frequency, or well-defined energy. They can be characterized by a probability distribution of frequencies, which may be analogous to an optical spectrum of a classical optical signal. I will introduce and discuss experimental methods to modify the spectral properties of optical single photons and discuss their applications in optical quantum technologies and quantum networks. In particular, I will present an approach to modify the spectral bandwidth and duration of single photons by more than two orders of magnitude, reaching the bandwidths characteristic of material single-photon emitters [1].
