On Thursday, May 15th 2025, the CeNT Symposium 2025 took place at the Centre for New Technologies of the University of Warsaw, during which new heads of science laboratories were elected. The event kicked off with a ceremony naming auditorium 00.142 after Prof. Piotr Węgleński, co-founder and director of the venue from 2012 to 2017, who served as vice-chancellor of the University of Warsaw for many years and rector of the UW from 1999 to 2005.
The gala part of the event was opened by the recently appointed director of the centre, Prof. Jacek Jemielity, PhD, followed by speeches by the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Nowak and by the Vice-Rector for Research and, at the same time, the Chairman of the Scientific Council of CeNT, Prof. Zygmunt Lalak.
Professor Węgleński’s daughters, Anna Łochowska and Magdalena Węgleńska-Wysocka, who were present at the ceremony, added splendour to the moment of unveiling the plaque commemorating the figure of the late professor, who died in 2024, and who was an unquestionable authority of immense culture, knowledge and class, a person perfectly recognised and respected both in academic circles and widely in society, both nationally and internationally.
This part was followed by the lectures of the candidates for laboratory managers.
The UW’s Centre for New Technologies is currently in the process of recruiting five new lab group leaders and the CeNT Symposium is the culminating event of the recruitment process, with the final 11 candidates presenting their research and vision for leading research groups,
