Maciej Majdecki became the first recipient of the award for achievements in the popularization of chemistry

Maciej Majdecki, a member of the Organic Electronics Laboratory at the Centre of New Technologies of the University of Warsaw and Tomasz Pospieszny from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań became the first recipients of the Alicja Dorabialska and Józef Hurwicz Award for achievements in the popularization of chemistry. The award was presented by the Chemistry Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Maciej Majdecki is best known for his modern and internationally recognized efforts to popularize organic chemistry through social media and scientific photography. As the creator of the @luminescent_chemist brand (220,000 followers), he effectively combines scientific work with public outreach, popularizing his research and achievements among a wide audience. He has authored over 20 scientific publications, including papers in the world’s most prestigious chemistry journals. His international recognition in the field of popularizing chemistry is confirmed, among other things, by his ongoing collaboration with *Chemical & Engineering News* (a magazine of the American Chemical Society), numerous awards in global photography competitions, and the inclusion of his photographs on the covers of Canadian academic textbooks and educational materials. He is also involved in national educational projects, conducting, among other things, training sessions on scientific outreach. He serves as an inspiring example of a researcher for the younger generation of scientists, demonstrating that science does not end with the publication of the latest research findings, but also involves presenting them to the public in a responsible and engaging manner.
