Jacek Jemielity awarded two academic prizes

Jacek Jemielity, leader of the Laboratory of Chemical Biology and the director of the Centre of New Technologies has been awarded two academic prizes.
The first is the Stanisław Kostanecki PTChem Medal, awarded for outstanding scientific achievements in organic chemistry. The award recipient was the paper titled “Chemically Modified mRNA for Therapeutic Applications.” The medal will be presented on September 22nd at the 67th Scientific Congress of the Polish Chemical Society.
The second is the Roman Kaliszan Prize and Medal, which will be awarded to the Professor on October 8, 2025. This annual distinction honors outstanding scientific achievements in the field of biomedical or biopharmaceutical sciences. The awarded achievement must open up new possibilities for application in medicine and pharmacy. The competition is organized by the Polpharma Scientific Foundation, the Medical University of Gdańsk, and the Gdańsk Scientific Society.
Professor Jacek Jemielity is a specialist in organic, biological, and biochemistry, with a leading global research position in chemically modified mRNA for therapeutic applications. He is also an inventor, with 14 patents and patent applications, two of which have been licensed by BioNTech and four by ExploRNA Therapeutics. He has co-invented several technologies for modifying mRNA for therapeutic purposes, and one of his inventions is currently being used in more than a dozen clinical trials. Professor Jemielity serves on the Advisory Board of the journal “Molecular Therapy Nucleic Acids” (published by Cell Press) and is an active member of numerous scientific societies.
