Influence of knotted structure on function of proteins and protein structure prediction

Project Leader: Prof. Joanna Sułkowska Project period: 2013 - 2020
Project funding: SONATA BIS 2, NCN
Project description:

There two main aims of this project: to understand the functional role and evolutionary origin of knots in proteins, as well as to develop a new method to predict structure of knotted proteins. To achieve these goals we will develop methods to study proteins with non-trivial topology from various perspectives, focusing on their geometry, evolutionary origin, and molecular motion. The project is of interdisciplinary nature and involves aspects of biophysics, mathematics, biochemistry, informatics and computer simulations. The project will be conducted within the newly established research group at the Faculty of Chemistry (University of Warsaw), and in collaboration with renowned experimental and theoretical scientists abroad.
