Abstract:

Seeds are highly resilient to the external environment. I will describe our efforts to characterise seeds’ ability to sense and adjust dormancy and germination to the external environment. Despite elaborate sensing mechanisms, seeds employ another strategy that is based on bet-hedging which allows plants to persist in unpredictable conditions. In my talk, I will describe our efforts to address this strategy at the transcriptional level by describing transcriptional heterogeneity among seeds in the model plant Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana)
