Abstract:

There are two unsolved problems in classical physics. One is embedded in non-equilibrium thermodynamics and one in hydrodynamics. We don’t know the second law of thermodynamics for systems out of equilibrium and do not understand why turbulent states are formed in the flow of matter. In my talk, I will arrange the marriage of hydrodynamics and thermodynamics and show the end of the beginning in the solution to both problems. My talk will start with hurricane Patricia and later the scientific suspense will grow. The talk will also serve educational purposes for those who would like to refresh their understanding of classical thermodynamics.
